First, the Edomites would not help their neighbors in their hour of need--they stood away, aloof(11). Then they watched Judah fall, and then rejoiced in it(12). The Edomites were then emboldened to enter through the broken gates of Jerusalem, and looted the Jews(13). Having come this far and being inflamed with the lust of battle and looting, they captured fleeing and surviving Jews and handed them over to the Babylonians(14). The slope of sin is slippery indeed. Today, people watch someone being picked on or made fun of, and then are encouraged to "join in the fun" and actively participate in hurting the person. The deep evil of the "mob mentality" occurs this way.
The woman probably came to the well at noon to avoid the other women, who came in the morning and/or evening when it was cooler. It was not likely there were other people around, or else the woman would not have carried on the conversation with Jesus. After Jesus spoke with her, she was so excited that she forgot two things: 1) her water jug, and 2) that she was an outcast among her own people. She left her jug and ran back into town to announce to everyone that she had talked to a man(!) who knew all the private and painful details of her life(!!). And the people listened to her (!!!) and went out to see Jesus.
All things were created by Jesus and for Jesus. He holds all creation together and sustains it. Jesus is the head of the church and the firstborn of those who, through Him, will conquer death. Jesus' ultimate role is to reconcile all of creation to God. There is nothing higher than or beyond Jesus in any sense. Jesus is fully God, and God is as far as anyone can go.
